The United Nations is celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2015 with a series of global events with the theme “Strong UN. Better World,” marking the Organization’s enduring achievements and highlighting its resolve to do more to promote peace and security, sustainable development and human rights.
In Afghanistan the UN family is marking the anniversary under the headline “UN70 – Strong UN, Strong Afghanistan” with events and activities beginning on UN Day (24 October) and running through to the end of November 2015.
The UN has a long and important relationship with Afghanistan. In recognition of this valued partnership, the World Organization is celebrating the work of some of the outstanding Afghan professionals it has assisted or worked with in recent years. These professionals, together with many other empowered Afghans, are leaders in fields of critical importance to the building of a stable, peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan.
The UN is gratified to see their professional development and the great things they are achieving for themselves, their families, communities and country. We are delighted to be able to provide an opportunity for audiences to hear their stories about their work and accomplishments in the different fields of food security, environmental protection, women’s rights and the many other vital areas in which they work.
The UN family in Afghanistan recommits itself to the core values of the Charter that came into force 70 years ago on 24 October 1945, as well as its determination to assist Afghanistan in its drive to Afghan ownership and self-reliance.
