This site was created as part of an Afghanistan-wide UN70 campaign running between UN Day and end November 2015. Available in English, Dari and Pashto, it highlighted the enduring and unique partnership between the UN and Afghanistan.
The central purpose of the site was to showcase the stories of a group Afghan professionals the UN has worked with or supported. These professionals are making a difference in their communities by providing vital services in many fields.
As well as reaching out to the more than one million people in Afghanistan through television and radio interviews, and special documentaries, the main visual component of the campaign, which ran under the theme of ‘Strong UN. Strong Afghanistan,’ was a UN70 photography exhibition.
The exhibition toured Afghanistan – five cities – reaching thousands of people, from leading personalities such as First lady Rula Ghani and the country’s Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, through to civil society activists and students.
The exhibition featured a collection of specially commissioned panoramic photos measuring four metres wide. Each photo contains three main scenes, highlighting key aspects of the Afghan professionals’ work in areas such as improved health care, de-mining, support for returning refugees and environmental protection.
